Rowing and Bicycling

Week 8 Sat. session carried out today : 15 min rowing machine + 15 min spinning bike

Hit the gym this morning at 07:00hrs. It was so fresh and so still - a nice distinction, in comparison to yesterday. I went straight for the rowing machine and it never felt so good to train without putting any stress on the legs! I could only do it for so long, though. I got bored and moved on to the bike.

A pleasant surprise was that the bike wasn't the challenge it used to be back in autumn (2009). The leg strength has tremendously increased since then. However, as Cross Training (CT) is about heart-rate training while giving the legs a break, I had to gear down a bit and concentrate on the speed instead.

Thus was the course of week 8's CT, the last of the week's scheduled training sessions.

Gym Issues

Week 8 Thur: 4X4min 2min walk between intervals

Yay.. I made 3k under 23min. The knee was at its best behaviour too. The legs could have carried me beyond the horizon but the rest of me wasn't having it. It wsn't of much help that it was so stuffy at the gym. Too many people! Isn't it time they deserted the place and went back to their non-active before-christmas life?

The guy on the treadmill beside mine could have used a clean change of cloths before hitting the joint. His odour almost cost me the session. All of a sudden the stuffiness wasn't so bad but luckily enough he left didn't stay long.

This weekend, I'll be checking out another gym.

WTF!! (Week 8, Tue)

Sometimes it is a good day for training, sometimes it is just a disappointment. Today was just sorrowful. After all these weeks of running, how can I still be struggling through a 20-min session?

Additionally, the right knee was being a nuisance – again! I barely made the scheduled 22 min and had to reduce the pace to 7.6 KPH to do it. If the goal is 10KPH, how in the running world am I going to get there at this pace? It certainly won’t be with one good leg, no matter how fabulous it is.

Then there is this marathon guy at the gym. He does the treadmill at 14 KPH for over an hour, burns more than 1000 calories doing it and afterwards he moves on to the weight training section. WTF! On top of that he had knee surgery about a year ago!

I will believe he is human when I too can run 15K under an hour! The knee surgery I can live without. Although, the way my knee is behaving lately it would probably be deserving of it. The silly knee!

Let it snow (Walk - I hr)

Talk about hibernating! Wonder what shape they'll be in by the end of the season.

A one-hour walk earlier today proved to be an hour too long. With my face growing stiff in the cold by the minute,
I started wishing I had one of these on:

A side from the frost, it was a nice day for a walk. Simply because it is more pleasant to trample on snow than it is on road slush.
So let it snow, let it snow!
