Jan 2010
At the very start of my training, back in the autumn of 2009, I didn't have the slightest clue about what I was doing. Even after I had met with a health specialist, fitted out for running shoes at a sports gear specialist, and even after numerous consultations with a marathon runner, I still felt I didn't have enough information.
My main problem really was that I was lacking information about how to combine weight training with running without wearing myself out. My love for weight training was equally as strong as my hate for running. Now I wanted to make a fusion of the two with the weights as the inferior party. With my 10k goal set within less than 12 months, I knew didn't have time for trial and error so I hit the bookshops - the online bokshops, that is. :)) This is what I found:

The content layout is in this guide is reader friendly and the language is very simple. The execution of the exercises is well illustrated with pictures. Most definitely suitable for weight training beginners.
The exercises are categorised in terms of muscle groups like the chest exercises and the back exercises, just to mention two of them.
The training schedules, on the other hand, are presented in terms of functionality. For instance you have the weight-loss program and the strength program. These programs come in six different levels of difficulty.
There is also information about running technique but it is minimal. There are similar guides to more than 20 different sports including, training for the triathlon, cheerleading, lacrosse and bowing.

Stora Stretchboken ("The big Stretch book") by Kristian BergISBN10: 9173630136
ISBN13: 9789173630139
The "big stretch book" is not as big as I imagined it to be but it is packed with a lot of information that stretches beyond the mere execution of the stretching exercises (or stretches).
The stretches come with a description of the muscle, its function, when to avoid it and the execution errors to avoid.
It is really more than a stretching book, probably why the "big" title. It covers subjects like the posture, the spinal cord and how to ease/relieve pain and discomfort for instance in cases of runner's knee.
This book has very clear illustrations of the stretches and also of the muscles involved. Stora Stretchboken is in Swedish.
Skinny Bitchin': A "Get Off Your Ass" Journal to Help You Change Your Life, Achieve Your Goals, and Rock Your World! by Rory Freedman & Kim Barnouin
ISBN10: 0762435372
ISBN13: 97807624353
You know how, while Internet shopping, you zero in on some potential buy and in an instant you are presented with a list of items that other people who supposedly bought your potential buy also supposedly purchased? "No"?
Well that is how I stumbled upon Skinny Bitchin'. With that kind of title I just had to find out what the deal was and just like that, it ended up in the shopping basket. Yes, they got me!
That Skinny Bitchin' should be some kind of self-accomplishment journal is hardly inconspicuous. However, I was shocked to see how so empty it was when I first opened it.
On one page you have an inspiring quote and on the other a task to accomplish. Then there is a whole lot of empty space. That is the way it is throughout the whole journal.
If you are like me and you don't mind writing, the shock wears off quickly once you discover that all that space is for you to do your home work. On the other hand, if you do not care so much for writing, that is okay; the pages are quite small therefore you do not have to work too hard.
However, it is not all about work. Sometimes you just have to relax and enjoy it too. And what is more? You don't have to be skinny to 'skinny bitch'.
Skinny Bitch: A No-Nonsense: Tough-Love Guide for Savvy Girls Who Want to Stop Eating Crap and Start Looking Fabulous by Rory Freedman & Kim Barnouin

One of the tasks in Skinny Bitchin’ is to "get your head out of your ass and go read Skinny Bitch". Well, Skinny Bitch has a few surprises that unlike the journal are not detected just by reading the title. Meat and dairy products’ lovers, for instance, may find some elements of the program pretty hard to digest.

This “tough-love” guide is an information bulletin that will make you think twice and long, forevermore about your grocery-shopping list.
Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin are a couple of bold skinny bitches that are telling you exactly what your problem is and they are doing it in some very, very vibrant language. Reminds me of Mo'Nique’s and Sherri A. McGee’s title, Skinny Women are Evil. ;))
